Basic Slow Cooker High-Protein Dinner Formula

A flexible slow cooker dinner formula with protein, sauce or broth, vegetables, seasoning, and an easy serving base.

Ingredients
  

  • 2-2 1/2 lb chicken, turkey, lean beef, beans, or lentils
  • 1-2 cups sauce, broth, salsa, crushed tomatoes, or curry simmer sauce
  • 2-4 cups vegetables peppers, onions, carrots, potatoes, corn, or spinach
  • 2-3 tbsp seasoning taco seasoning, Italian herbs, chili powder, garlic, onion powder, or curry powder
  • 6 servings rice, potatoes, pasta, tortillas, toast, salad greens, or vegetables
  • Greek yogurt, herbs, lemon, lime, hot sauce, or cheese optional finishers

Method
 

  1. Add protein, sauce or broth, vegetables, and seasoning to the slow cooker.
  2. Cook on low for 5 to 7 hours or high for 3 to 4 hours, until the protein is fully cooked and tender.
  3. Taste and adjust salt, acid, or heat before serving.
  4. Serve with a planned base so the meal feels complete.
  5. Pack leftovers in portions while the food is already out.

Notes

Refrigerate leftovers for 3 to 4 days or freeze saucy proteins flat in bags or single-serving containers. Reheat with a splash of broth or water if needed.
